National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section – JWF Signature Grant

The Center for Women, a project of NCJW and JWF, provides programming, services and referrals to women in transition, with the goal of helping them achieve financial literacy and economic independence.  JWF is providing the initial seed funding for operational support.  The Center provides numerous volunteer opportunities to JWF trustees, NCJW members and other community partners including teaching workshops and becoming a mentor.  The Center offers internships to women, allowing them to participate in a hands-on experience so they may adequately prepare to re-enter the workforce. National JWF Grant Collaborative

Second year of funding. The Pittsburgh Jewish Women’s Foundation has made a two-year commitment to participate in a national grant collaborative.  The Jewish Women’s Collaborative International Fund (JWCIF) is comprised of seventeen different Jewish Women’s Foundations/Funds of North America and Israel. The mission of the JWCIF is to engage in effective grant-making, leverage our collective resources, raise awareness about important issues affecting women and girls in Israel, and elevate the status of the Jewish Women’s Foundations/Funds in our local communities.

In response to the recent instances of discrimination against and exclusion of women in the public sphere in Israel, the JWCIF is seeking to address this timely issue through our collaborative grant.  The grant was awarded to a collaboration is Israeli women’s organizations dedicated to ensuring equality for women in the public sphere.

United Way, United for Women

United Way has developed a special campaign to aid women and their children who are newly in crisis or one step away from crisis.  They are doing this in conjunction with other women’s philanthropic organizations.  The results of the campaign will include increased and improved efforts to help women in fragile economic situations.
